A TYCOON and his former beauty queen wife have spoken about how they aim to make wishes come true for 100 terminally ill children - a year after losing their own triplet babies.

Pub chain entrepreneur Garreth Wood, the son of retired billionaire oil tycoon Sir Ian Wood, and his wife Nicola Wood, a former Miss Scotland, are to complete 50 random acts of kindness as the only Scots to take part in the glamorous Gumball 3000 Rally when it goes through Scotland for the first time.

For each of the acts of kindness they complete, Mr Wood's company, The Speratus Group, will donate £2000. The £100,000 will allow the group of Scots children to go on a journey to Lapland to meet Santa and enjoy a traditional sleigh ride.

The move comes a year after the couple lost triplet babies because they were so premature. The three girls were born 16 weeks early on July 1 last year. The smallest, Oren, died a week later, followed by her sisters, Asha and Willow, days later.

Mrs Wood said that although the couple's loss was in different circumstances to that facing the families who will benefit from their fundraising, "we also understand the intensity of hospital days and treatments, the tough news the doctors bring, and how emotionally exhausting every moment can be for all of the family".

The couple will carry out their acts of kindness throughout the seven-day rally, which starts in Miami and ends in Ibiza. It begins on June 5 and is expected to arrive at Prestwick Airport three days later before roaring east to Edinburgh.
