RANGERS have confirmed a document that appeared to link former owner Craig Whyte to the company that bought the club's assets and business has been passed to the police.

The document is a director appointment form, which purports to show that Mr Whyte was a director of Sevco 5088 Limited, the company set up by former Rangers chief Charles Green that initially purchased the assets.

It has been passed on by Pinsent Masons, the legal firm set up to investigate whether Mr Whyte was still involved with Rangers.

Details of the Pinsent Masons probe were never released by the club, other than to say that no evidence was found that Mr Whyte had any involvement with Sevco Scotland Ltd, the company fronted by Mr Green that eventually acquired the assets.

Mr Whyte has always claimed Mr Green acted as a front man for him through Sevco 5088, the company that purchased the assets and business of the Rangers operating company he had put into administration.

However, a statement on the Rangers website on April 12 said Mr Green was the sole director of Sevco 5088 and he had resigned to be the founder director of Sevco Scotland Ltd, the firm he transferred Rangers' assets to once the CVA had failed.

Rangers International Football Club plc reiterated that former owner Mr Whyte - who was at the helm when the Ibrox club went into administration in 2012 - has no links to the current company.

"One of the reasons the investigation report has not been released was because a matter was reported to the police," said the company.

"The company did not wish to do anything that may undermine any police inquiries into the issue.

"The board of directors have at all times acted to protect the interests of the company"
