Rankin opens new chapter for crime literature festival

NOVELIST Ian Rankin helped launch Scotland's first Tartan Noir festival yesterday.

Crime, the biggest-selling adult specialist literary genre with total UK sales last year reaching £143 million, is to be celebrated formally for the first time next year.

Rankin was one of 19 crime writers based in Scotland who backed the event, called Bloody Scotland, which is planned for September 14–16, 2012.
