Republic plans protest

The anti-monarchy group Republic Scotland plans to hold a protest demonstration on Edinburgh's Royal Mile on Thursday, as The Queen, Duke of Edinburgh, Earl and Countess of Strathearn and other members of the royal family attend the Thistle Service at St.

Giles Cathedral.

It will be the first protest in Scotland by Republic, which has come north following successful protests in England. The group, which campaigns for the abolition of the monarchy, began to organise in Scotland last year and has established a support base at Holyrood.
