THE number of retired people will more than double in some areas of the Highlands over the next two decades, according to new projections.
Highland Council estimated that its population will grow by 15% to 255,835 in 2035. Deaths will exceed births from 2023 onwards and so growth will be mainly the result of net inward migration of 1400 people per year, many of them to retire.
