Review of rail debacle 'tainted'

FORMER Labour Transport Secretary Lord Adonis has called the Department for Transport's review of the West Coast Main Lane rail franchise debacle "tainted." He told the House of Lords that Sam Laidlaw, who is carrying it out, is a non-executive director.

Lord Adonis questioned how he could be judged to be independent when he is so close to the department.
