River rescue youth loses fight for life

A teenager who got into difficulty while swimming in a river has died in hospital.

Scott Couper, 15, had been swimming with six other friends in the River Nith, near Carnsalloch Gardens, Kirkmahoe, last Wednesday when he suffered problems while under the water. He died yesterday at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary, Police Scotland said.
