Road death numbers down

The number of people killed on Scottish roads dropped 11% last year compared with 2010, while those seriously injured decreased 5% according to Government figures.

Road death and injury numbers are now at their lowest-ever level, down 47% and 45% respectively since 2001.

However, Transport Minister Keith Brown said there was no room for complacency, and claimed: "The very latest data on reported road casualties provides encouraging evidence we are making good progress in driving down road casualties, with numbers at their lowest level since records began over 60 years ago."
