Romantic tale sets example

THE romantic tale of a woman who emigrated more than 80 years ago is being held up as an example of what Scots can discover when they track down their relatives abroad.

Now Scots are being encouraged to research their family background ahead of the second Year of Homecoming in 2014.

Mary McLeod O'Neill set sail from Greenock bound for Canada in 1929. On the crossing she met another Scot, Alex McGee, and they married on Christmas Day that year and raised a family in Hamilton, Ontario.
