Olympic rowing champion Katherine Grainger says her CBE is the ‘icing on the cake’ after being presented with the honour by Princess Anne at Buckingham Palace.
Grainger, who received an MBE in 2006, was recognised with a CBE for a memorable 2012 which saw her finally win Olympic gold with double sculls partner Anna Watkins after three successive silver medals.
Britain enjoyed their most successful Olympic regatta during London 2012, with Grainger and Watkins one of four crews to win gold on the lake at Eton Dorney from a total haul of nine medals.
