JK Rowling said she would "bring marshmallows" after Twitter user said her books should be burned in public over her support for the Union.

The Harry Potter author previously revealed that she had become a target for online abuse in the wake of the General Election result.

On Friday she thanked Twitter followers who had supported her, writing: "If you could all see the amount of love and support flooding my timeline right now, you would be - as I am - overwhelmed. #FaithRestored."

She later added that her fans' posts "reminds me how big the world is and how many more decent people there are than not".

Yesterday, she responded to one Twitter user who suggested her books should be burned in public over her support for Labour and the No campaign by joking that she would "bring marshmallows".

She tweeted: "Book burnings! I'll bring marshmallows."

The poster, @JMcGilchrist93, has now deleted his Twitter account.

Ms Rowling had previously complained about the abuse she faced from cybernats during the referendum campaign after it emerged she had donated £1m to the No campaign.

In 2008, she donated the same amount to the Labour party.

On Friday the author revealed she had been called "a traitor" for her political views and had blocked some abusive Twitter users she believed had been SNP supporters.

The 49-year-old also revealed she had "responded to other really nice SNP supporters" and had discussed "how much I had in common politically with many of them".
