Rugby final to be shown on big screen

HUNDREDS of rugby union fans are expected to flock to a city centre square tomorrow evening to watch Glasgow Warriors compete in the final of a major club tournament.

The Glasgow side's match against Irish provincial side Leinster Rugby in the RaboDirect PRO12 Final will be shown on big screens in Merchant Square for all the fans who are unable to make the journey to Dublin for the showpiece game.

This is the first time the Warriors have competed in the final and a spokeswoman for Merchant Square wished the team the best of luck.

She said: "Merchant Square is delighted to be showing the Glasgow Warriors final live on our big screen and to be playing host to all their many fans.

"We wish the team all the best and hope that everyone has a great day on Saturday, enjoying all our bars and restaurants have to offer."

About 3000 Warriors fans are expected to attend the match, with hundreds booked on a charter flight organised by the club that will fly out of Glasgow Airport on Saturday morning.

Others are travelling by car and ferry to get there, sailing to Belfast before driving to the RDS stadium in Dublin.

The game - which kicks off at 6.15pm - will also be shown live on BBC Alba and BBC2 Scotland.

The club has also organised a "fanzone" at Dublin's Ballsbridge Hotel from noon.

Warriors managing director Nathan Bombrys added: "We're expecting the largest number of television viewers for a Glasgow Warriors RaboDirect PRO12 game."

Scottish Rugby's director of commercial operations, Dominic McKay, said: "This will be an historic occasion for Glasgow Warriors.

"Everyone at Scottish Rugby would like to wish the Warriors all the very best in the final."
