SINGER Emeli Sande and chef Andrew Fairlie were among those honoured at the Scottish Variety Awards.

Winners of eight categories in the awards, which are run in association with The Herald and Clyde 1, were announced at the weekend at a sold-out ceremony at the Crowne Plaza hotel in Glasgow.

Sande, who sang at the event, won the breakthrough artist of the year award and Fairlie won the special award for outstanding achievement.

The awards went to:

l New Scottish band/solo artist – Finding Albert.
l New Scottish company – Isle of Skye Candle Company.
New Scottish actor/actress – Millie Innes.
New Scottish comedian  – Stephen Callaghan.
New Scottish restaurant – Jamie’s Italian Glasgow.
Up and coming Scottish politician – Emily Shaw.
Up and coming Scottish sportsperson – Craig Benson, swimming.
Up and coming Scottish designer – Judy Clark.
Breakthrough artist of the year – Emeli Sande.
Outstanding achievement – Andrew Fairlie, chef.
