A Scottish golf caddy has been knocked down and killed in the US.

Neil Fyfe, 29, from Aberdeen, was cycling in Suffolk county, New York, on Friday when he was hit by a car.

Reports in the US said a man has appeared in court charged with drink-driving in connection with the collision.

The Foreign Office are helping Mr Fyfe's family.

The 29-year-old was said to be returning home from work at Sebonack Golf Club when he was struck by the car.

Mr Fyfe had previously worked at the Bear's Club in Florida, a course popular with celebrities and professional golfers.

He had caddied for Keegan Bradley, Luke Donald, Dustin Johnson and former basketball player Michael Jordan, according to the New York Post.

A spokesman for the Foreign Office said: "We are aware of the death of a British national in New York on Friday May 2 and are providing consular assistance to the family at this difficult time."
