Scotch on top of world after a bumper year

IT has faced stiff competition from Germany and Japan, but Scotland’s favourite tipple is growing in popularity among drinkers around the world.

The boom in whisky drinking in emerging countries such as India, South Korea, Thailand and Brazil led to a 10% rise last year in the drink’s export value, according to the latest figures.

Industry chiefs are reporting a record year for international sales.
