SCOTLAND'S all-time leading wicket-taker Majid Haq has been sent home from the Cricket World Cup after he allegedly posted a race-related message on Twitter following his non-selection for the defeat to Sri Lanka this morning.

The development came after Scotland, who had already lost all four of their matches at this year's World Cup, fell to a 148-run defeat against Sri Lankan in Hobart.

Following a breach of Cricket Scotland's internal code of conduct, international team member, Majid Haq, is travelling home from the ICC World Cup.

Haq was not picked and a race-related tweet appeared on his Twitter account.  It was deleted some time after.

The tweet stated: "Always tougher when your in the minority!! #colour #race"."

Cricket Scotland said: Following a breach of Cricket Scotland's internal code of conduct, international team member, Majid Haq, is travelling home from the ICC World Cup.

"No further statement will be issued until internal processes have been completed in due course."

Haq, who was born in Scotland and is of Pakistani descent posted another tweet that remains stating: "Make sure everybody in your 'boat' is rowing and not drilling holes when you're not looking. Know your circle."

Cricket Scotland would neither confirm nor deny that it related to the tweet.

He has played more than 200 times for Scotland and taken 258 wickets.

The 32-year-old has, however, only managed three wickets in four matches at the World Cup and was replaced against Sri Lanka by fellow off-spinner Michael Leask.

Scotland have lost all five of their group matches so far, leaving the team one more chance to register a win when they face Australia in Hobart on Saturday.
