HE has interviewed Olympic swimmer Rebecca Adlington, comedian Ken Dodd and Scots boxing hero Ken Buchanan - not bad going for a boy of 11 of who is said to be Scotland's youngest radio DJ.

Ross Tomlinson, from Kirkintilloch, a volunteer presenter with the Sunny Govan community station, is just one of a substantial army of young Scots who take part in campaigning, volunteering or fundraising.

He has a live, two-hour-long Saturday show on the Sunny Govan station at its Govan Road offices.

He said yesterday: "My dad knew of the station and when he found that they were looking for young people, I came in and they showed me how to work the equipment. I started doing some recordings and they thought I was really good and they offered me a voluntary slot.

"It's great to be able to interview people like Rebecca Adlington and Sanjeev Kohli," added Ross. "I really enjoy the show, it's unusual. I'd like to carry on stay for a couple of years and get to know it, and see if anybody else wants me, or whether they want me do more things here.

"If people are looking for a job or anything, it's good to come and volunteer and get to know about things like sound production."

In his page on the Sunny Govan website, Ross said he wants his programme to get young people involved in radio.

His father, Gerry, who is also a presenter on Sunny Govan, said: "Ross has done really well, but he isn't precocious about it. He takes it in his stride and he's eager to learn."
