ONE of Scotland's biggest-ever art shows, toasting 25 years of the country's success in producing contemporary art, is to be taken around the world.

At least part of the The Generation show – which showcases the work of 100 contemporary artists either trained or based in this country – will go on the move in 2015 with Brazil among the countries expected to be included.

The organisers of the exhibition, to open next year, are working with the British Council on the inter- national tour, which could also take in South Africa and India.

Generation, which will be exhibited across Scotland next year in 50 venues, will include works from Douglas Gordon, Martin Boyce, Richard Wright, Susan Philipsz, Simon Starling and Martin Creed. Other artists included will be this year's Turner Prize nominee David Shrigley.

Brazil is a key country for cultural activity in the coming years, with the World Cup being held there next year and the Olympics in 2016.

A British Council source said: "It will probably be shown in various venues in Brazil. There are so many important events in that country coming up, we see it as a ideal location for Generation."

Simon Groom, director of the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art: "We would love to show Generation as widely as possible and to audiences internationally."
