Purvis and his colleagues Louis Smith, Kristian Thomas, Max Whitlock and Sam Oldham became the first British gymnastic team to achieve a podium finish for 100 years, delighting the Royal brothers and the rest of the crowd as they defied all expectations to leave the arena with medals.
