Scots journalist Allan Little, who covered the first Gulf War and the Rwandan genocide, is to leave the BBC.

The BBC News correspondent will leave the corporation at the end of 2014.

During his time as a foreign broadcast reporter Little had covered the Gulf Wars of 1991 and 2003, the Yugoslavian conflict, and the Rwandan genocide.

Born in Dunragit in Dumfries and Galloway, Little attended Stranraer Academy before graduating from the University of Edinburgh where he studied History and Politics.

He started his BBC career in 1983 as a researcher in Glasgow before joining the Today programme, specialising in foreign reporting.
