Scots cyclist Aileen McGlynn has been presented with an OBE for services to disabled sport by the Princess Royal at Buckingham Palace.

The paralympian, 36, said her award was a great thank you for all the hard work she had put in.

“It’s amazing,” she said of the experience.

The sportswoman, who was born partially sighted, won gold in the 1km time trial in Beijing 2008 with her tandem pilot Ellen Hunter.

The pair set a new world record in the process.

McGlynn, from Glasgow, said she had set her sights on London in 2012, adding: “I’m going to try my hardest.”
