The Scottish singer Finley Quaye, a star in the 1990s, has been ejected from the stage after the venue's owner objected to the 'bullsh*t' he was playing.

Quaye, born in Edinburgh, was ordered off the stage by Matt Roberts, owner and promoter of The Convent, Stroud.

Quaye - whose Maverick A Strike album was a bestseller and won Best Male Solo Artist at the 1998 Brit Awards, had, according to Roberts, failed to show for the sound check and was an hour late.

The singer and his band were performing a lengthy slow-moving blues jam, without vocals, when Mr Roberts decided to end the concert.

After Quaye departed, Mr Roberts apologised to the audience and asks the shocked band to "go home".

"I will not sit here and pollute my venue with b******t ... not in the Convent," Roberts said.
