Scottish fashion designer Christopher Kane announced prior to his spring/summer 2014 show at London Fashion Week that he will open a flagship store in London next year.

Kane, who partnered with luxury goods conglomerate Kering (formerly PPR) in January, will open the store on Mount Street in the prestigious shopping district of Mayfair, which is home to stores from high end fashion brands such as Lanvin, Marc Jacobs and Vivienne Westwood.

"This is an incredibly exciting time for us," said Mr Kane, creative director, and his sister Tammy, deputy creative director of the brand. "To have our own retail space gives us the chance to showcase our collections and to really express our vision. To open in London first was really important to us as this is where our label was born."

The announcement came as Newarthill-born Kane presented his first fully developed collection since receiving the investment from Kering. The show featured sharp black tailoring and dresses with teardrop cut-outs trimmed in silver leather as well as skirts featuring summery prints of buttercups, carnations and orchids, paired with slogan sweatshirts. Mr Kane often references aspects of his school days in his collections and here this was evident in the botanical sketches that looked like they had been plucked straight from biology class.

The final section of the catwalk show showed Mr Kane's new grown-up focus as he presented an array of nude silk and pleated chiffon evening gowns dotted with floral crystal embellishment. It said something about the cross-age appeal of Kane's creations that he attracted front row fans such as Anna Wintour, Samantha Cameron and Alexa Chung.
