Scottish piper's lament for first man on moon

SCOTLAND paid its own tribute to Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon, at a celebration of his life in Washington.

Piper Angus Sutherland, dressed in Clan Armstrong tartan, played Mist Covered Mountains as the astronaut's family entered the city's cathedral for the memorial service.

Armstrong was proud of his Scottish roots and in 1972 was given the freedom of Langholm in Dumfriesshire, traditional home of the Armstrongs. He died at the age of 82 on August 25 after suffering complications from heart surgery.
