Scottish Water faces spill fine

Scottish Water could be fined up to £80,000 after conceding that failures led to pollution of a nature reserve two years ago.

The wetlands at Castle Semple Loch at Lochwinnoch, in Renfrewshie, a haven for wildlife and an important RSPB reserve, were closed to the public when the spill occurred on two dates in October.

Paisley Sheriff Court heard how the area is a designated site of special scientific interest and also a popular watersports centre and important to anglers.
