A DESIGN student who gave up her job in architecture to follow her love of furniture-making is hoping to find a market for her latest creation - a drinks cabinet which is in the shape of a fish.

Ali Wilson, from Dunlop, East Ayrshire, who has been studying at the Chippendale International School of Furniture in East Lothian, has won Design Student of the Year for her quirky sculpture.

Ms Wilson, who left a job in technical advisory work to do the 30-week course, was inspired by a cartoon picture of a fish.

"I liked the idea that this piece had volume and you could open up the rib cage," said Ms Wilson, who aims to continue to explore her new skills on a part-time basis.
