The Queen sent the baton on its way at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday. It will travel more than 120,000 miles (193,121km) before returning to Scotland in June.
After visiting 70 Commonwealth nations and territories, the final leg will be 40 days in Scotland.
About 100 "local champions" are needed to carry the baton on each day it is in Scotland and nominations have opened for to carry it in each town and city it visits.
Organisers are looking for people over 12 who have contributed to their community through sport; volunteer in youth groups, or are role models for young people. A panel will select successful nominees from each local authority.
