THE body of a Scots hostage, kidnapped with four other British men in Iraq almost five years ago, has finally been handed in to the British Embassy in Baghdad.

Security guard Alan McMenemy, 34, of Milngavie, East Dunbartonshire, was snatched while his group was guarding IT expert Peter Moore in May 2007. Mr Moore was the only one to survive the ordeal.

Mr McMenemy's widow Roseleen said: "We have worried about Alan every single minute of each waking day. We now know we will shortly have Alan home again, this will allow us to properly grieve for him."

Prime Minister David Cameron said it was with "great sadness" that the body had been formally identified, adding: "My thoughts are with Alan's family and friends at this time."
