Home Secretary Theresa May and Scottish Justice Secretary Kenny Macaskill joined hundreds of police officers at York Minster for a service to mark National Police Memorial Day.
Outside York Minster, the chief constable of Greater Manchester, Sir Peter Fahy, said the recent deaths of Fiona Bone and Nicola Hughes made the day even more poignant.
