Seven people have been injured after a bus collided with a car and veered into a cottage.

Emergency services were called to Edinburgh Road, in West Barns, Dunbar at around 10.15am today.

A private coach crashed into a single-storey detached residential home after a collision with a Vauxhall Antara.

The man and woman in the car, both aged 65, were taken to Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh with possible chest injuries, the fire service said.

Crews used hydraulic cutting gear to free the 40-year-old driver who was trapped in the single-decker bus. He was taken to hospital with head injuries, along with four bus passengers.

The cottage is undergoing renovation and was unoccupied, police said.

A fire service urban search and rescue team are at the scene to assess the stability of the building.

The road was closed for investigations.

Andy Amour, road policing inspector, said: "This has caused significant disruption in the area and we are awaiting further confirmation as to the nature of the injuries sustained by those involved.

"Our inquiries into exactly what happened are continuing and we are keen to speak with other motorists or members of the public who were in Edinburgh Road and witnessed the collision."
