GLASGOW'S annual youth film festival, which is curated by 15 to 18-year-olds, will now be a weekend showcase for movies to appeal to the younger film lover.

The Glasgow Youth Film Festival (GYFF), now in its seventh year, will begin on February 6 with the Scottish premiere of the sci-fi film The Signal, which stars Laurence Fishburne and Olivia Cooke.

Other films include German thriller For No Eyes, the drama Supernova and the anime film Time of Eve.

The closing film, Korso, concerns the dreams of a basketball playing youth, Markus, in Korso, a town near Helsinki in Finland.

One of the festival's programmers, Fatemeh Nokhbatolfoghahai, 17, said it was probably her favourite film in the festival.

"It is different because it is about dreaming the impossible dream but usually in films they achieve it but this one is a little bit different.

"It is a beautiful film, from the first shot - and I play basketball myself, so it is particularly pleasing to see it in the programme."

GYFF is believed to be the only film festival in Europe where young people are involved at all stages of festival production, from selecting the film programme to publicity and event management.

Ticket go on sale tomorrow at 10am.
