SCOTS pop sensation Amy Macdonald has built up a £3.5 million fortune since launching her music career.

New figures have revealed the singer-songwriter has amassed the vast sum just a few years after she was playing gigs in Glasgow coffee shops.

Her records have sold millions of copies and she has become a massive star in European countries such as Germany and Denmark, as well as the UK.

Latest accounts show Amy's main company, Amy Macdonald Ltd, has £2,420,812 in the bank. Her second company, Amy Macdonald Touring Ltd, has £1,094,783 in another account. The combined £3.5 million bank balance for the period up to April 2011 means her earnings have more than doubled in two years. And the 24-year-old, from Bishopbriggs near Glasgow, is set to get even wealthier as she has just released her third album, Life In A Beautiful Light, which is battling it out for the top spot in the charts.

A music industry source said: "The figures show that Amy has done fantastically well and she is also very financially savvy. "

The accounts show that in 2010 Amy, who owns all the shares in both companies, paid herself a salary of around £650,000 from them.

She set up the firms more than five years ago soon after signing her first record deal – and she has also not been shy in splashing out on luxury items with her royalty cash.

Last year, she purchased an £800,000 luxury home in Milngavie, East Dunbartonshire, with her ex-footballer fiance Stevie Lovell, 31.

Speaking earlier this month, Amy said success hadn't changed her. She said: "It's very easy for me to blend into the background. I still have the same friends from school – so that side of my life hasn't changed."
