Sir Walter Scott home to reopen

The Scottish Borders home of Sir Walter Scott is to re-open to the public on July 4 after a multimillion-pound regeneration.

The Abbotsford Trust, a charitable body set up to protect Abbotsford and Scott's legacy, has so far raised £12 million of the £14.5m required to save the historic property.

Abbotsford, near Melrose, had faced an uncertain future after the death in 2004 of Scott's last descendant to live in the house, Dame Jean Maxwell Scott.
