A SCOTTISH soldier who lost his legs in a roadside bomb attack in Afghanistan is coming home to talk about his decision to join Prince Harry on a trek to the South Pole.

Sergeant Duncan Slater, who now lives on the Norfolk-Suffolk border, is being joined by the young prince in the South Pole Allied Challenge before Christmas in aid of the forces charity, Walking With The Wounded.

Teams from the US and the Commonwealth are also undertaking the expedition for four weeks in December.

Sgt Slater, whose legs were amputated after 12 months of rehabilitation, is due to give a speech next week in Inverness.

He said: "I want to show others that amputees can do anything. To have the opportunity to help a charity that is willing to do so much is beyond words."

l Sgt Slater's talk takes place on Thursday, July 25, at 7pm at Inverness Auctioneers, Church Street.
