Spa resort settles tax dispute

EXECUTIVES of a five-star golf and spa resort near Glasgow say they have settled a dispute with the taxman which threatened to plunge their business into liquidation.

Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs presented a petition to the Court of Session to order that Mar Estates, which runs the Mar Hall resort, should be wound up and a liquidator appointed.

But owners of the 53-bedroom luxury Bishopton hotel estate said the debt has been settled and it was "business as usual".

A spokesman for Mar Hall said: "The mix-up occurred because we disputed HMRC's figures. We finally reached agreement on Wednesday and a payment was submitted to them.

"Unfortunately, they had lodged court documents on February 19 and details were published today.

"2012 was our most profitable year yet and 2013 has started even better."
