GLASGOW will host one of the stand-out football games of the Olympics this summer as world champions Spain play their first match of the tournament at Hampden Park.

Spanish expats are gearing up for a "party atmosphere" in the city on July 26 as the side take on Japan in Glasgow.

The fixture will give Scots fans the chance to see rising stars like Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea and Barcelona wonderkids Cristian Tello and Isaac Cuenca.

Honduras will play Morocco at the stadium later the same day and restaurants, bars and hotels are looking forward to a bumper day of business as droves of fans visit.

The fixtures were announced yesterday in an official draw at Wembley Stadium. Spaniard Antonio Jiminez, a 23-year-old computing student said: "I'm really happy with the draw because the game will be played so close to where I live. I know a lot of my friends who are really big football fans will be too. I'm sure we'll all go because it's so close.

"I'm not sure if many people will travel from Spain for it though because it's the under-23s, but there are many Spaniards living in the UK who will definitely travel to be there. I think there will be a party atmosphere."

In contrast, Japanese couple Fumi and Yushin Nakabachi claim many supporters will travel from Japan because they already have a link to the city through former Celtic player Shunsuke Nakamura.

Fumi said: "I think a lot of people will come from Japan because they know Glasgow. It was Nakamura's second home and people know it because of his link to Celtic."

Other matches being played at Hampden include Egypt against Belarus on August 1 and five women's football matches featuring players from the USA, France, Columbia and North Korea.

Olympics organising committee chairman Lord Coe added: "Fans can begin to get excited about the amazing spectacle."
