RANGERS Football Club and lawyers for former chief executive Martin Bain were last night at loggerheads over claims he had resigned as an employee.

The Ibrox side issued a statement to the London Stock Exchange stating that Mr Bain, who was suspended after businessman Craig Whyte took over the club, had “resigned as a director and employee of the company with immediate effect”.

However, representatives for Mr Bain denied he had resigned “as an employee”.

Peter Watson, solicitor advocate at Levy and McRae, told The Herald last night: “He resigned as director, but holds the club as having repudiated his contract. Proceedings have been raised for damages based on breach of contract.”
