IAN Rankin and Christopher Biggins were among the famous faces enjoying "lunch with an old bag" as the event raised more than half a million for charity.

A total of £538,840 will go towards The Prince's Trust Scotland after an auction of items from designer handbags to restaurant experiences and luxury holidays.

The most fiercely contested lot at the event at Edunburgh's Prestonfield House was a dinner for 10 guests with Rankin and Jack Vettriano. Bidding became so heated that the author and artist took to the stage and offered to double the prize if the competing bidders agreed to both donate the winning amount - raising a total of £70,000.

Fiona Donaldson, chairwoman of the organising committee said: "Women over 40 are often inappropriately perceived as 'old bags'.

"Lunch With an Old Bag celebrates the glamour and grace of women who aren't afraid of birthdays, We also have a lot of fun."
