SUPPORTERS, footballers, pop stars and Hollywood actors turned out in force yesterday as Parkhead hosted the Maestro charity match event.

Fronted by Celtic legend Paul McStay and former Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand, more than 20,000 fans turned up in Glasgow's East End to raise money for Unicef and War Child.

Former stars of the beautiful game strutted their stuff on the Paradise turf, including Stiliyan Petrov, Paul Scholes and Lubo Moravcik, while household names such as Jack Whitehall, Martin Compston and Ralf Little played their part.

Arguably the biggest name celebrity on the bill was One Direction star Louis Tomlinson, who famously was poleaxed in last year's #19 Legends match at Parkhead, causing him to go off early as a result.

Every touch he made for Ferdinand's All Stars was greeted with loud cheers from thousands of screaming girls in the crowd, but it was not loud enough to drown out the celebrations of the home crowd as McStay's Maestros won the match 3-2 courtesy of goals from Frank McAvennie, James McAvoy and John Hartson to cancel out strikes from Andy Cole and Rizzlekicks star Jordan Stephens.

Hollywood star McAvoy admitted it was a dream come true to bag a goal in front of a loud Celtic Park crowd.

He said: "When someone asked me if I wanted to take the penalty to score the second goal, I thought, 'This can't be happening to me.' It was brilliant.

"You are there to make an idiot of yourself or mildly surprise people.

"We're there to raise money. If I play well it doesn't really matter."

Sweet 16 actor Compston added: "That lap of honour at the end of the game will stay with me for the rest of my life. Paul McStay, along with the late Tommy Burns, is the epitome of this club."
