STILL Game is set to return after six years to the stage, appearing at Glasgow's Hydro next September and later on television with BBC Scotland.
Ford Kiernan and Greg Hemphill announced details of four show's at Glasgow's newest venue at a press conference today. Tickets go on sale at 9am on Friday.
The duo have also revealed that they will be talking to the BBC next week about bringing the show back to tv screens.
Following the announcement Gavin Mitchell, who plays Boaby in the show, tweeted: "It's official we're back!! #StillGame."
Paul Riley tweeted: "So now you know!!! Still Game live at the Hydro next year. Tix on sale Friday! Come join the party!"
Scotland's most popular sitcom - which was inspired by a stage show - ran for five years on BBC Scotland until stars Ford Kiernan and Greg Hemphill parted company.
However, the 'artistic differences' which prompted the split have been settled. And today the pair revealed they are 'massively excited' about the return.
Ford explains how he and Greg Hemphill came to make their decision to return to the world of Craiglang, and bring back the key characters Jack, Victor, Isa, Tam, Navid, Boaby and Winston.
"I went to see a stage production of Still Game at the Ayr Gaiety this year," he recalls.
"And I was standing outside the theatre before the show and a local bloke came up to me and said 'How come you're no' inside?'
"I had to explain to him it was a Sonic Boom theatre company production, that Greg and I had given permission to stage, and he said 'And I've paid seven and a half quid - and you and the other fella are no' in it? To hell wi' that.'
"And it made me think. So when Greg and I were talking we realised we'd love to go back to the Still Game world."
Greg Hemphill agrees. "We never really stopped talking completely, so there was always the chance we'd get around to bringing the show back.
"For me, the catalyst was watching the arrival of the Hydro. We figured it would be an incredible arena to play. And now that's what we're planning to do."
The format for the new stage show has yet to be created. And the pair are not yet sure yet whether Still Game will re-emerge on television as a Christmas or Hogmanay special for 2014.
However, the Still Game stage show - Still Game - Live At The Hydro - is scheduled to run at the Hydro for four nights from September 30 next year.
"It could be more than four nights," says Ford. "We'll wait and see what the reaction is."
Sanjeev Kohli, who plays shopkeeper Navid in the series, says he was never in doubt that Still Game would reappear.
"Spandau Ballet got back together - and they had sued each other," he says, grinning.
"When you keep that in mind anything is possible."
