Still Game star Ford Kiernan is preparing to get back in front of the camera after joining the cast of an indie Scots film.

Kiernan, who is best known for Still Game and Chewin' the Fat, will star in Journey Bound, a road movie about a young career driven lawyer who sees the error of his ways as he chases the love of his life through the Scottish Highlands.

The film will be directed by Ryan Hendrick and produced by Magic Monkey Films and Journey Bound Films. It has been written by Ryan Hendrick, Clare Sheppard and Phylippa Mayes. The film's producers include Bafta Scotland winning duo David Newman and Pamela Barnes, who won the Best Entertainment Award earlier this year for The State of Greenock.

Hendrick, who was nominated for a Bafta New Talent Award for short film Choices in 2010, said: "And the first of our big secrets is out. Very excited to be working with such a legend.

"The Scottish Film Industry is in a state of crisis and it's down to a lack of creativity and commercial risk at the hands of those at the top. The absence of strong quaint romantic comedies particularly in Scotland since the days of Bill Forsyth's Gregory's Girl and Local Hero has long been felt, and I am attempting to resolve this."

Kiernan and his comedy partner Greg Hemphill recently sold out 12 shows at the SSE Hydro after announcing that their much-love series Still Game would return as a stage show next year.

Journey Bound is scheduled to be released in summer 2015.
