THE cast of popular BBC comedy show Still Game are to return to television screens next month with an hour-long version of their record-breaking live show.

The reunion of the sitcom for a 21-night run at Glasgow's Hydro arena, which finished two weeks ago, was watched by more than 200,000 people.

A shortened version of the show will be shown on BBC One Scotland at 9pm on Friday November 7. A DVD of the full show will be released later next month.

The cult comedy ran for 44 episodes on BBC Scotland over six series from 2002, following the previous success of the pair's sketch show, Chewin' the Fat. However, it came to an end following the pair's acrimonious business split.

In the show, Ford Kiernan and Greg Hemphill played Jack Jarvis and Victor McDade, two foul-mouthed pensioners spending their days disreputably in the fictional Glasgow housing scheme of Craiglang.

Kiernan and Hemphill, still only 52 and 44, are much younger than the characters they portray, despite it being seven years since the TV show was last recorded.

There are hopes that next month's broadcast could mark the beginning of a return to television for the popular series.

In July, the comedy duo revealed that they were in advanced talks with BBC chiefs about writing new episodes which may be aired across the whole UK network, not just north of the Border.

Speaking at the time, Hemphill said: "We're talking to them at the moment about doing another series, but these wheels turn slowly.

"They seem very keen and are very supportive, and they're happy that we're doing the show [at the Hydro].

"Hopefully we'll be back on TV at some point in the next couple of years."

Hemphill is also working on a short film with comedian, Frankie Boyle.
