Streets ahead

PHOTOGRAPHER John Harfield prepares to take an image of Leith Walk resident Ally Burns as part of a series of street portraits.

Harfield, 30, began it as part of a lunchtime past-time after being fascinated by the "interesting" characters on the Edinburgh street. He went on to photograph scores of people as part of the documentary project. He is now holding an exhibition of his work at Woodland Creatures on Leith Walk, with proceeds from the sale going towards the Cyrenians charity for the homeless. Picture: Julie Howden
