ANDY Murray warned his mum off appearing on Strictly Come Dancing by telling her she was an "awful dancer".

Judy Murray has revealed the tennis star was relieved when she told him she would not be taking part in the hit BBC show.

Rumours started to surface during this year's Wimbledon that the tennis coach was set to tread the boards on this year's series.

She said Andy confronted her about it, and told her she would have no chance of winning. She said: "It was on the front page of the papers and Andy asked me about it.

"I said 'no' and he said 'Thank God for that, you would be absolutely terrible' which I would.

"I think it's just a rumour so no, definitely not.

"If I could dance with any tennis player it would be Feliciano Lopez, who I call 'Deliciano'. He looks a bit like a Roman god."

Judy, 54, is a long-term fan of the popular ballroom dancing show and previously told how she would love Russia's Artem Chigvintsev as a dance partner.

She said: "If I was going to dance with somebody it would definitely be Artem."

The BBC were said to be in advanced talks with Judy after failing to convince Andy's girlfriend Kim Sears to compete.
