Strike threat as BBC set to axe radio stations

Broadcasting unions warned of looming industrial action after the BBC announced its new strategy yesterday, which includes slashing its internet activity and services, as leading broadcasters came out to defend Radio 6 Music, one of the stations due to be taken off the air.

In a new strategy unveiled following a substantial leak last week, the corporation said it plans to close BBC Radio 6 Music and the Asian Network, as well as spending 25% less on online services.
