Successful NTS play returns home

One of the most successful plays produced by the National Theatre of Scotland is returning home after a run in the US and the West End of London.

The Strange Undoing of Prudencia Hart, created by writer David Greig and director Wils Wilson, is to tour Scotland this spring.

The production, which had sell-out shows in California, Texas and Florida, will visit Maryhill Burgh Halls in Glasgow, Perth Theatre's Redrooms and Edinburgh's Assembly Roxy venues.

The production has undertaken the longest international tour by the National Theatre of Scotland (NTS) to date. The show has been performed on four continents, in nine countries and in 46 different venues.

It was recently staged last summer by the Royal Court Theatre in London and in the US earlier this year.

Mr Wilson said: "It's truly wonderful that The Strange Undoing of Prudencia Hart is coming back home to tour Scotland again 2014.

"The audience plays such a big part in the show that every performance is different, a challenge, a new encounter."

The show premiered in Glasgow in 2011, before gaining critical acclaim at the Edinburgh Fringe.

The production has been staged in pubs, breweries, village halls and studios with bars. It combines storytelling, music and theatre inspired by the Border Ballads, Robert Burns and the poems of Robert Service.

The NTS recently unveiled its plans for 2014, including plays relating to the forthcoming Independence referendum.
