COLLEAGUES of a firearms officer who shot himself in a Glasgow police station are to be offered emotional support and counselling.

Rod Gellatly, 41, died in the city's Baird Street police station on Monday after shooting himself.

A spokeswoman for Strathclyde Police said: "In light of the tragic incident, his colleagues will be offered emotional support and counselling should they require it."

An independent force, Lothian and Borders Police, has been appointed to oversee the investigation into the tragedy.

Baird Street police station, in the city's Springburn area is the base of the Strathclyde Police firearms unit.
