SCOTS tennis star Andy Murray relies on a humble assortment of sweets to get him through gruelling ice baths following workouts.

But he still struggles to reach the 6000 calories a day he requires to increase recovery during major tournaments.

Filmmaker Jo McCusker, who met the world No 2 for a forthcoming documentary, says the sweets are used to entice the star into the freezing water.

Details of the 26-year-old's boot camp sessions in Miami come as Dunblane's most famous son prepares for his latest assault on Wimbledon with a return to action at the Aegon Championships at Queen's Club.

Murray says his back is feeling "really good" after injury ruled him out of the recent French Open, and that he will need to be ready for anyone at Queen's.

Of his ice bath regime, he says: "It is all part of what we need to do to make sure we can recover."

Ms McCusker said: "Andy spends 10 minutes in a brutally cold bath after training, to rid his body of the lactic acid. He has a cup of sweets to lure him into the water (he wears just his shorts), and for us, at least, he resisted the urge to swear."
