Swim event cancelled due to norovirus fears

An outdoor swimming event at a 2014 Commonwealth Games venue has been cancelled amid concerns that competitors could contract norovirus from the water.

Thousands were due to take part in the Great Scottish Swim at Strathclyde Country Park in Motherwell, North Lanarkshire, this weekend, including some competitors who participated in the Olympics. Organisers cancelled the event after tests indicated heavy rainfall could push levels of the sickness bug above safe limits.
