Swimmers brave cold conditions in name of charity

HUNDREDS of people across Scotland braved bitter conditions for the annual New Year's Day dip in the nation's coastal waters, rivers and lochs.

More than 1100 swimmers took part in the Loony Dook Swim in the chilly waters of the River Forth to raise tens of thousands of pounds for charities.

The Dookers, many dressed in costumes, were led through South Queensferry by a pipe band before taking to the cold river.
